Job Description

We do this by investing in real estate, building inviting places and creating jobs.  We are seeking a highly motivated accounting professional that sees value in our purpose and has the aspiration of growing into the role of Controller while managing our financial operations under the supervision of our current Controller.

The successful applicant will report directly to our Controller and will be responsible for a range of accounting tasks related to the company’s operations and real estate portfolio. This includes being responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for approximately 40 different properties/entities. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the real estate industry and be familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Job Cost Accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Record journal entries for various transactions, including real estate acquisitions and dispositions
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and analysis
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other accounting standards
  • Assist with annual audits and tax preparation
  • Prepare monthly project cost reports and monitor vendor contracts
  • Assist in development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in the real estate industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and other accounting standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a face paced team
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of real estate accounting principles and practices
  • Understanding of income tax basis accounting
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks
  • Public accounting experience
